What is StIRRRD?

The Strengthening Indonesian Resilience: Reducing Risks from Disasters (StIRRRD) is a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) programme designed to increase the DRR capability of local government and local universities in Indonesia. The Activity assisted 10 districts and associated universities to understand DRR issues, develop their capability to manage these issues, and generate prioritised action plans and implementation programmes.
A key part of the programme involves cementing relationships between local government and local universities, who have developed disaster risk management teaching and research programmes to support local government and communities. The districts involved in the Activity provide peer support to each other during the Activity and beyond. The Activity was designed and implemented by GNS Science and Universitas Gadjah Mada and funded by New Zealand Aid.
