Risk Modelling Training

Risk Modelling Training, Palu, 19-23 October 2015

The Risk Modelling training was organised by Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Universitas Tadulako (UNTAD), the Spatial Planning Department of Palu City, NIWA and GNS Science. Participants came from Local Government (9 StIRRRD districts), and from the 4 StIRRRD universities.

The training involved a series of presentations, discussion and group work sessions, practical tutorials, and half–day field visit to collect asset data needed for risk modelling. Topics covered included concepts of risk modelling; hazard models, exposed assets and the vulnerability of those exposed assets to the various hazards. Groups also devised disaster scenarios for their districts that they would like to model to determine the losses. A risk and loss modelling tool developed and used in New Zealand, called RiskScape was used to illustrate the various risk concepts and show how risk models are used.

The RiskScape Training workshop report is available here.
